Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrates 177 years of service to the community
GALVESTON, TX – October 12, 2021 – The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrates 177 years since its inception as a nonprofit organization representing local businesses. In September, Governor Greg Abbott officially proclaimed that October 18-22, 2021 is “Chamber of Commerce Week” in Texas. Signing an official resolution, Governor Abbott celebrated the more than 600 local chambers of commerce in Texas who “provide a critical link in the communities they serve by fostering a vibrant business environment, promoting local projects, and paving the way for small businesses to thrive.”
During this week, all of the citizens of our region should pause and reflect on the many contributions made to our community through the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce. As stated by Governor Abbott, “their work leads to stronger people, better communities, and a prosperous state we are proud to call home. The Chamber of Commerce improves your community by creating jobs, implementing beautification programs, improving education, campaigning for improved streets and highways, and stimulating industrial, commercial, and agricultural growth.
“From COVID shutdowns, reopenings and challenges of the Delta variant, the chamber never stopped working and we remain committed to serving our members to provide resources, customized assistance, networking and leadership growth opportunities,” said Gina M. Spagnola, president and chief executive officer for the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We have been 100% focused on the needs of business and the Galveston Chamber is stronger than ever.”
The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce continues to prove its relevancy to the business community by putting advocacy more front and center, increasing its membership, hosting numerous networking events including mixers and Good Morning Galveston, kicking off the 2022 Leadership Galveston program with a record-number participants, producing signatures events to help shape the community and enhance educational opportunities for youth, women and emerging leaders.
Members of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Galveston community are encouraged to take a moment to celebrate and thank your chamber’s staff and volunteers for all of their hard work.
