Galveston, TX – July 30, 2025 – The 18th Annual Galveston Women’s Conference promises to inspire as the “Heart of a Champion” theme takes center stage on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at the Moody Gardens Convention Center, One Hope . This year’s event features two extraordinary Paralympians: Bethany Zummo, a three-time Paralympic gold medalist with the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team, will serve as honorary keynote speaker, joining Amy Purdy, a three-time Paralympic snowboarding medalist and New York Times best-selling author. Together, they will deliver a powerhouse program that celebrates resilience, determination, and the strength it takes to lead with heart. Zummo is graciously sponsored by Shriners Children’s Texas.

Born with a limb deficiency, Zummo had her right leg amputated at age two. Encouraged by her parents to pursue sports from a young age, she learned early on that limitations don’t define potential.

For more than 15 years, Zummo has built a career in sitting volleyball, a dynamic sport adapted for athletes with physical impairments. Her dedication to competing at the highest levels has not only earned her global recognition but also positioned her as a fierce advocate for mental toughness, inclusion, and the power of adaptive athletics.

Through speaking engagements and mentorship, Zummo shares a message of strength, vulnerability, and showing up fully—in sport, in life, and in leadership.

“Having two Paralympic medalists—Bethany Zummo and Amy Purdy—on our stage is going to be an unforgettable experience for our Women’s Conference attendees,” said Gina M. Spagnola, President and CEO of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce. “They both represent the unbreakable spirit and determination at the heart of this year’s theme.”

Rebecca Lilley, 2025 Galveston Women’s Conference Chair, added, “Between our exceptional speakers like Bethany Zummo and Amy Purdy, the moving stories of our Women of the Year honorees, and the energy of our vendor market, this conference truly offers something for every woman who wants to grow, connect, and be inspired.”
