Recently, more than 1,000 women joined us for an unforgettable day filled with inspiration, connection, and a little retail therapy from over 100 incredible vendors. We were deeply moved by our honorary keynote, Paige Lacombe, who shared her powerful story of survival and the life-saving care she received at Shriners Children’s Texas. And of course, our afternoon keynote with actress Jane Seymour gave us a candid, inspiring look into the highs and lows of her career and personal life—complete with a special performance by her son, Johnny Keach!

Coming off the transformative energy of our 19th Annual Galveston Women’s Conference—where we focused on nurturing mind, body, and spirit—the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to carry that momentum forward. We’re taking that wellness conversation a step further at our upcoming State of Healthcare Summit & Luncheon on Friday, October 23 at the Galveston Island Convention Center.

This year, we’re expanding what was previously a luncheon into a full half-day summit. We’ve added an inspiring breakfast keynote and six targeted breakout sessions leading right into our flagship luncheon panel at noon. Plus, attendees can explore a vendor expo throughout the morning.

Here’s a quick look at what we have planned:

  • Breakfast Keynote: Featuring the Blue Zones Galveston Project at 9:00 AM
  • Breakout Sessions: Focused on critical topics including Healthcare Access & Choice, Heart Health, Healthcare by the Decades & Healthy Aging, Pediatric Health, Holistic Health, and Cancer Care.
  • Panel Discussion: Featuring top leaders from HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland, Memorial Hermann, Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, Shriners Children’s Texas, and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

Every year we host this event; I’m amazed by how much I learn. It’s an essential space for talking about how we expand healthcare access and grow our regional healthcare workforce. So many of us put off routine check-ups simply because life gets busy. In fact, research shows that nearly two-thirds of adults delay routine care until symptoms become severe. On top of that, so many of our local employers—including our own office—feel the strain of rising healthcare costs.

As business leaders across Galveston, our responsibility extends beyond our daily operations; it includes building a culture of health. Investing in our well-being, moving from personal mind, body, and spirit to broader community health to directly strengthens our workforce, productivity, and local economy.
