Chamber President Gina Spagnol

As we embrace the season of gratitude, I find myself reflecting on the many reasons I’m thankful. Serving as President and CEO of the 5-Star Accredited Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce for the past 21 years has been an honor. I remain inspired by the people and businesses that make our community extraordinary. In addition, I’m extremely grateful for the love and support of my family – Bob and Caroline.

I’m grateful for the privilege of serving more than 1,000 members and working with a dedicated Chamber team committed to promoting business and community development. Their passion fuels our mission every single day.

I’m especially thankful for our vibrant small businesses. These entrepreneurs face challenges head-on, creating jobs, goods, and services that keep our local economy thriving. Whether opening their doors during a busy holiday season or recovering from events like Hurricane Beryl, their resilience and creativity shine.

Our educational partnerships are another source of pride. Collaborations with institutions like UTMB, Texas A&M University’s College of Marine Sciences and Maritime Studies, Galveston College, and others create opportunities for personal and professional growth through our Education Committee and Workforce Development Committees. These relationships are key to strengthening our workforce.

Chamber programs such as Leadership Galveston and Sail to Success help cultivate leadership skills among local professionals. Meanwhile, the Maritime Career Pathways to Success program offers students hands-on experiences that help them see the rewarding careers in the maritime industry. Many local businesses and organizations generously support all these initiatives.

I deeply appreciate our elected officials and legislators who advocate for our region. U.S. Congressman Randy Weber, Texas Senator Mayes Middleton, Texas Senator Brandon Creighton, Texas Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen and Texas Representative Terri Leo-Wilson’s staff regularly attend Chamber events.

Volunteers hold a special place in my heart. The dedication of our Board of Directors, committee members, and Navigators is inspiring. Events such as the Galveston Women’s Conference, Lemonade Day, our Annual Golf Tournament, and the Chamber Clay Shoot, as well as the upcoming Annual Meeting and Galveston Island Country Music Fest on January 25, 2025, wouldn’t be possible without their contributions.

I’m also thankful for the non-profits that tirelessly serve our community. This year, we celebrated milestones like the 45th anniversary of the Resource & Crisis Center of Galveston County and the 50th anniversary of Meals on Wheels. Their compassion and service remind us of the importance of supporting those in need.

Finally, I invite you to join us in giving back during the 44th Annual ABC13 “Share Your Holidays” Food Drive on Tuesday, December 3. Drop off non-perishable food items from 8 a.m. to noon at Ball High School or the Galveston County Food Bank’s Texas City location. All donations stay local, benefiting families in Galveston County.

Thank you, Galveston County, for your unwavering support of local businesses, nonprofits, and each other. Together, we build a stronger community every day.
